Kitchen Cleaning, Microwave, Cleaning Tips

Have you ever found yourself rushing to cook a quick meal before a night out or after a long day at work? Maybe you microwaved a packet of frozen sauce to spice up dinner and impress your family, only to find you left it in too long or forgot to cut enough holes for the air to escape. Then BANG — food stuck all over the inside of your microwave.

It happens to the best of us. Whether you are in a busy Glasgow flat or a family home, a dirty microwave is one of the most common kitchen cleaning challenges. The good news is that you do not need harsh chemicals to get it sparkling clean again.

Today I am going to show you how to quickly and easily remove all that food, dirt and grime using a simple, natural method that will have your microwave looking as good as new.

What You Will Need

To get started, make sure you have the following items ready:

  • A microwavable cup of water
  • A microfibre cloth
  • A teaspoon of lemon juice

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Place a cup of water with a teaspoon of lemon juice into the microwave and heat on full power for 5 minutes. The lemon acts as a natural degreaser and leaves a fresh scent.

  2. Once finished, carefully remove the cup and the microwave plate.
  3. Wipe down the inside of the microwave with your microfibre cloth. The steam will have loosened all the grease and grime, making it easy to wipe clean without scrubbing.

  4. Place the microwave plate in the sink and wash with warm soapy water.
  5. If there is still any stubborn residue, simply repeat the process one more time.

  6. If your microwave has chrome on the outside, clean it with a glass cleaner for a lovely streak-free shine.

Why This Method Works

The steam from the lemon water loosens dried-on food and grease, while the lemon juice naturally cuts through grime and eliminates odours. It is a safe, chemical-free approach that is perfect for households with children or pets.

There you have it — a fresh, clean microwave ready for your next meal without spending all night scrubbing away. This is one of the simplest kitchen cleaning tips I share with all my clients across Glasgow.
